I’m a bra fitter in the UK. Won’t name the store, but it’s one that’s internationally popular so occasionally we get people from abroad coming in to bulk-buy English bras because they fit better and are cheaper.
A few months ago a German woman, who didn’t speak any English, came in for a fitting with her two daughters to translate for her. What she didn’t know was that I speak near-fluent German because I used to work in Bochum as a primary school teacher.
I fitted her for an hour (she wanted a LOT) and she slagged me off the whole time - “she doesn’t know what she’s doing / she’s so young– have they given me an intern? I want a professional / I won’t take fashion advice from a girl that heavy / she’s not using european sizing, is she stupid” - and her daughters translated VERY favourably, both of them clearly quite uncomfortable with the situation.
I put on a brave face for the whole thing, pretending not to notice, and then as I was putting in her customer info (we keep a record of all our customers) one of the daughters complimented me for pronouncing their surname correctly.
I said thanks, and casually dropped into conversation - in perfect German - that I used to live in Germany and spoke the language.
Watching all the colour drain from that woman’s face as she realised what just happened, and seeing her two daughters quietly lose their collective shit behind her, was pretty glorious. Almost made it worth it.
I would 100% be okay with waiting a few more years for the movie to come out if it meant the artists weren’t overworked.
Heck, if abusing workers was the only way for this movie to come out (and it’s definitely not, don’t buy into that lie) I would rather it never came out at all. No piece of art, not even one as great as ATSV, is worth the abuse.

There are so many people - even on this post - who are well-meaning in their “yea stick it to Russia” that don’t consider how it looks to us. It implies we have no agency of our own and our every move is motivated by consideration of what would R*ssia think or do.
It also degrades decades of work by our LGBT community in campaigning and working for their civil rights.
I mean, as a Bulgarian it feels like trying to be a modern, free county pretty much is “sticking it to Russia”
It feels like that. However, it is not like it’s our entire motivation and goal (we just want to live in peace and to be left alone), it’s just a side effect.
Hi folks! UPM, a Finnish forest industry company, is planning on cutting down forest in Rokansaari — an island that spans five square kilometers in Lake Saimaa. Rokansaari has often been described to be a hidden gem and a paradise island, known for its natural sandy beaches, eskers, and lush beautiful pine forests. It’s very popular among travellers, boaters, tourists, all kinds of people really. Some of the forests on the island are even 130 years old.
The areas that UPM is planning on cutting down are labelled as a protected area, but that really only means that you can’t build things there. “Careful cutting” of these forests is fine. Do you know what UPM’s definition of “careful cutting” is, according to their previous work in other parts of Rokansaari?
…Yeah. And now they’re back to cut down the rest of the area they have.
Anyway, Greenpeace has made a petition to urge UPM to not cut down Rokansaari’s forests! They’ve succeeded in telling UPM off before in 2016, when they managed to keep another similar island safe. I hope they’ll be able to do it again, so I’m sharing the petition! I’m not sure if non-Finns can sign it, but if not, sharing it would be enough. We need more people on this case!
